No matter what tree work you need, from hedge trimming to large tree dismantles, WD’S TREES is the company for you. Whether you're a land owner with woodlands to manage or just trying to look after your garden hedge, WD’S TREES will offer you a competitive quote and we will ensure you receive high quality work from skilled arborists who care about what they do. We offer free quotations and are more than happy to answer any questions you may have and provide suggestions on future tree management. This page contains a list of the services we offer in order to give you a general idea of what you may need. All trees require specific kinds of management depending on a range of factors such as species, size and location. We need to survey your trees while we provide a quotation, so that we can provide the best possible service.

Hedge Trimming

Many people have hedges in their front and back gardens but hedges can grow quickly and become difficult to manage, create a lot of mess and look unsightly. It can also be quite dangerous to manage these hedges if you do not have the proper equipment, which is why you should hire a tree surgeon. At WD’S TREES we can properly trim and reduce hedges to ensure they look exactly how you want them to. With frequent management we can train hedges to grow in certain ways and keep them looking good all year round. We will also clear up and dispose of all the hedge trimmings to keep your hedge and surrounding area tidy.

Tree Planting

Planting trees is very beneficial for the environment and helps in the fight against climate change so if you have a tree removed from your property, have space to fill on your land, or want something to improve your view then WD’S TREES planting services may be exactly what you’re looking for. We can help you choose the right species of tree to suit your needs, the best place to plant it, and how to take care of it - all at a competitive price.

Tree Felling and Removals

If you have a damaged or diseased tree that needs removing, then felling may be the best removal option for you. This can be a quick method of tree removal depending on the size of the tree. As long as there is space for the tree to fall, we can fell it and process the materials for removal. We will always ensure your property and surroundings are protected before the fell to eliminate any potential damage. Tree stumps can be cut to any desired height whether you want them down to ground level or left a few feet high for them to naturally decompose and help the local ecosystem.

Tree Dismantles

Dismantles are required when trees need to be removed in sections to ensure nothing below the tree is damaged. Trees left to grow overtime can get too large for their surroundings and they may start disturbing nearby structures as their root systems and branches grow.

Pollarding

A pollard is where you reduce a tree back to its main growth points. Pollards should be carried out to make overgrown trees easier to manage. The wounds that are created from the pollard will grow shoots that can be cut back down when they exceed their desired height. Over time this will form "Knuckles" that will regrow shoots when they are cut back down again. Pollards can leave trees in a nice, even shape but can only be done on certain resilient tree species as this management technique puts the trees under lots of stress when it is first carried out. Pollards can be done instead of completely removing trees when they become too difficult or too large to manage. Re-pollarding these trees should be done annually to maintain the desired shape and size.

Crown Reductions

Crown reductions are a common form of tree management that can be carried out on the entirety of a trees crown or just specific areas. The purpose of a crown reduction is to reduce the weight and sail area of a trees canopy to better prevent branches from snapping in high winds or for aesthetic reasons to achieve a more uniform or suitable shape. Crown reductions create smaller wounds than other forms of management and keep the trees main framework in tact which puts less stress on the tree than larger forms of pruning. Most species can undergo crown reductions although certain species respond better to them than others.

Crown Thinning

Crown thinning is where certain branches are taken out of a tree's crown. They can allow more light into the area below a tree without the need for more significant work like a pollard. They can also be done to remove diseased and rubbing branches, make the tree more aesthetically pleasing and help to organise the canopy for future management. Crown thinning also allows wind to pass more easily through the tree reducing the chances of branch snap outs while simultaneously reducing the weight in the crown, making the tree more structurally sound.

Crown Lifting

Crown lifts are a simple and effective form of management carried out to stop low tree branches from completely covering the ground below them, casting a thick shade and disturbing their surroundings. A crown lift is where the lowest branches are removed from a tree which raises the crown to a desired height. Crown lifts can be done to varying heights depending on the species of tree and why the crown needs lifting but they are usually two to three metres and can be repeated every few years depending on the trees species, location and reason for management.

Dead Wood Removals

Many trees have dead branches in them which can be dangerous as, depending on the species and individual tree, they can fall out of the canopy and sometimes be quite large. These dead branches can spread depending on what caused them to die, clutter the space below a tree after they fall or become a risk to you or your property. If you suspect dead branches in any of your trees you should contact us so we can try to prevent any more branches from dying and remove the already dead branches before they fall.

Coppicing

Coppicing is a sustainable and environmentally friendly source of timber that is established when certain resilient tree species are cut down to a stump and left to grow shoots which can be harvested and left to grow again. These shoots should be harvested every 5 - 10 years for optimal results. Coppicing can only be done to certain tree species and in the UK the most commonly coppiced species are hazel, willow and hornbeam. Coppicing is easy to carry out and maintain while providing you with a sustainable supply of timber shoots.

Fallen Branch and Site Clearance

Many of the UK’s trees have branches snap out of them due to storms, high winds or “summer branch drop” which is where mature tree branches can fall out of trees and cause cracks in their stems. This is very common with coniferous trees as their branches can be weighed down by snow and rain causing them to snap. Dead branches that are left alone can also fall out of trees and be very dangerous. Managing fallen branches is our highest priority service as they can land in potentially hazardous and unstable positions and cause serious damage on impact. We can carefully remove these fallen branches to stop any further damage from being caused. We will also survey your tree for free to see if it needs further management as it is likely that other branches may fall in the future due to weather conditions or diseases.
